IT Jobs in Ireland
With the emergence of the Irish economy within the EU framework,
I.T. jobs in Ireland have grown in number considerably over the
last decade or so. Many multi-national computer companies have taken
advantage of favourable economic conditions and have set up manufacturing
plants, subsidiaries, or head offices there. With that has come
an expansion in the I.T. job market, and in some areas there
has been a considerable shortage of skilled labour. Having said
that there has also been a significant change in immigration to
Ireland in recent times. Many Irish people are returning home because
of the improved fortunes there and many others are looking to Ireland
as a potential new home. The end result is many new, skilled people
entering the job market. All-in-all though, if you have the right
skills and experience there are good computer jobs waiting for you
in Ireland. |

For those citizens from within
the E.U. (European Union) and the E.E.A (European Economic Area),
Ireland offers a more laid back European alternative. Citizens
from these areas are able to seek work within Ireland with very
few, if any, restrictions. For people outside of this area there
are a number of immigration alternatives, but generally speaking
a work permit is required to seek employment in Ireland. Some
countries also have a reciprocal working holiday agreement with
Ireland for people aged between 18 and 30. Click
here for more details about work permits and visas to work
in Ireland.
The majority of commerce, industry and the population base are centered
in and around Dublin City. As such, this is where you will find
the majority of I.T. jobs and the majority of agencies specialising
in placing applicants into I.T. jobs around Ireland.
For job seekers there are a number of avenues that you can pursue
to find a computer job in Ireland. If you're looking for a computer
job in Ireland, from outside the country, we suggest you read our
article on 'Finding
Overseas Jobs' for tips and suggestions on how to approach your
search. For those already in Ireland numerous private agencies have
sprung up over the last decade to act as a middleman between employer
and employee. Like most agencies dealing with various industry sectors
your experience with them can vary depending on whom you talk to
within each agency and also from agency to agency. If you intend
on using them it is normally suggested that you register with 3
or 4 agencies – enough to make sure you have enough resources
working for you, but not too many that you spread yourself too thinly.
Most agencies in Dublin are situated within walking distance of
each other so you could plan on spending a day to get yourself registered
with a handful of them, and they do cater for computer jobs right
around the whole of Ireland. Additionally you can find local computer
employment agencies in various towns and cities around Ireland.
Other avenues to look at are online job banks and newspapers. Irish
newspapers don’t generally carry a lot of employment positions,
and those that are listed normally attract many applicants. Irish
newspapers are also reasonably expensive so buying a couple each
day just to scan for jobs can add up in the long run. There are
government job centers (called FAS) that have a number of resources
to help you with the cost of finding employment, such as listing
the day’s job section from the newspaper. Online job banks
however normally carry a great number of jobs, and there are some
specialized job banks catering specifically for computer jobs in
Ireland.
I.T. jobs in Ireland generally pay reasonably well, and certainly
above the average national wage for more specialized positions.
This obviously depends on a number of factors but in general you
should expect a decent salary. There are good opportunities for
contract work with many short to medium term contracts available
to suit those on a one-year working holiday.
To help you further we have collected a number of online resources
to assist you with immigration and finding a computer job in Ireland.
