There are four different categories under which you can apply to
the New Zealand Immigration service to enter New Zealand under the
Business Migrant scheme:
- Long-Term Business Visa
- Investor
- Entrepreneur
- Employees of relocating businesses
New Zealand Long Term Business Visa
This is primarily for migrants to New Zealand who envisage buying
a business or starting their own business. Visas are normally issued
by the immigration service for 9 months, which can then be extended
to 3 years. To satisfy the requirements of the New Zealand Immigration
service potential candidates must be have a suitable business plan
that will be of benefit to New Zealand, have relevant business experience,
have a good command of the English language, have sufficient funds
not only to start or buy the business but to support the applicant
for a reasonable period of time, and the applicant must pass health
and character assessments.
New Zealand Entrepreneur visa
This category is an extension of the Long Term Business Visa. Applicants
who have successfully developed or ran a business for a period of
two years can be granted residency. Although it is preferable that
the business is running a profit, loss-making businesses can be
considered if it is deemed that a profit is likely within the third
year.
New Zealand Investor visa
The Investor category is aimed at migrants who wish to invest a
minimum of NZ$1 million in a New Zealand business or other venture.
The applicant does not have to be actively involved in the operations
of the business but merely an investor. Even if you have sufficient
funds to invest under this category not everyone is accepted. A
points system is in place which evaluates factors such as age, experience,
English language ability and the area of investment the candidate
wishes to get involved with. |
Employees of relocating businesses
If
you are not eligible for any other residency category, and are
a key employee of an existing business that wishes to open a branch
in New Zealand, or is relocating to New Zealand, then you can
apply for residency under this category. Under this category you
can be granted up to 24 months temporary residency within which
time the business will need to be started. There are a number
of criteria that apply to this category. For more information,
visit the New
Zealand Immigration website.
New Zealand Skilled Migrant Visa
The
Skilled Migrant category is designed to attract professionals
with adequate work experience who can adjust and adapt to the
New Zealand way of life, and be able to find work easily. Applicants
will only be considered if they are under 56 years of age, speak
adequate English, are healthy and of good character with no previous
convictions, and have the work experience and qualifications to
support their application. This category is based on a points
system where there is a total of 250 points awarded for various
criteria. Applicants who reach a minimum of 100 points are able
to register an expression of interest in immigration to New Zealand.
Applicants falling under the 100-point minimum will not be considered.
To find out more information about the Skilled Migrant category,
and the points system, visit the New
Zealand Immigration website.
These are some of the main categories for those wishing to move
to New Zealand, take a working holiday in New Zealand, or just
go there for a visit. The list we give here is by no means exhaustive.
There are many different categories of visas and permits with
which you can enter New Zealand. We suggest you spend time on
the New Zealand Immigration website to become familiar with the
criteria that suits your needs. The information on this page is
intended as a guide only, and should be verified at the official
New Zealand Immigration Service website. Remember, if you use
the services of a third-party agency to obtain your visa, permit,
or to find employment, make sure that you are comfortable with
what they offer and what you receive for your payment. Where possible
get independent opinions and recommendations before parting with
any money. While we, at Overseas Experience, take every effort
to provide up-to-date information about immigration issues the
responsibility is with the applicant to make sure that they are
aware of the latest regulations. Unfortunately we are not in a
position to give personal assistance or advice on any immigration
issue. Please contact the New Zealand immigration department or
your nearest Embassy if you have concerns or questions.
