I.T. jobs in New Zealand
The New Zealand I.T. sector, like in many other countries around
the world, has suffered a slump in recent times and is looking forward
to a resurgence in the coming years. Currently in New Zealand there
has been a significant influx of migrants with I.T. skills from
Asia, the sub-Continent and South Africa. Although this has slightly
saturated the market with candidates looking for work, the prospects
for I.T. professionals looking to move to New Zealand are reasonably
good as there are always jobs for qualified, experienced people,
particularly with strong English skills. To get more information

It will be vitally important to your chances of obtaining an I.T. job in New Zealand that
you understand and can speak English to a high standard. New Zealand
is a bi-lingual country with both English and Maori the official
languages, but Maori is only spoken by a small (but ever growing)
number of people and certainly not outside of New Zealand. While
the national unemployment rate is reasonably low (approx. 4-5%),
the average unemployment rate for recent immigrants to New Zealand,
particularly from Asia and the Pacific regions, is almost double
that of the national average.
It is not practical to say that any certain area of the I.T. market
is in short supply in New Zealand as the situation changes rapidly
and each prospective employer has their own needs. The majority
of I.T. jobs are centered in the cities of Auckland and Wellington,
but there are jobs to be found all over the country – particularly
in the burgeoning South Island.
Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city with a population of
just under 1.5 million people. It is quite cosmopolitan in nature
and is well suited to new immigrants to the country. Wellington
is somewhat smaller, with a population of just over 400,000. While
the pay within the I.T. industry in New Zealand is considered lower
than that in other countries, it must be kept in mind that the cost
of living in New Zealand is lower than in most other countries -
so the remuneration you can expect from an I.T. position in New
Zealand should afford you a comfortable lifestyle. |
The average wage for an I.T. job in New Zealand is around 50% higher
than the national average wage, so despite the comparative shortfall
with regards to international pay scales, I.T. workers in
New Zealand fare quite well.
